AI insights
- You put in ₹2,000 and it grows to ₹12,000 — about 6.0× your money, with ₹10,000 earned on top.
- Roughly 83% of the final value is growth, not your own contributions — the compounding is doing the heavy lifting.
- Staying invested longer, or stepping the amount up each year, tilts this even further in your favour.

Net price versus VAT.
VAT breakdown
| Component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Net price (excl. VAT) | ₹10,000 |
| VAT (20%) | ₹2,000 |
| Gross price (incl. VAT) | ₹12,000 |
Net is the price before tax; gross is the final price a customer pays.
How the VAT Calculator works
Formula
- Net
- Price excluding VAT
- Gross
- Price including VAT
- rate
- VAT percentage you enter
Step-by-step calculation
Worked with the default values.
- 1
Add VAT
₹10,000 × 20/100
= ₹2,000
- 2
Gross price
Net + VAT
= ₹12,000
How it works
- To add VAT, multiply the net price by the rate and add it on top.
- To remove VAT, divide the gross price by (1 + rate/100) to recover the net price.
- The VAT amount is simply the difference between the gross and net prices.
Examples
₹10,000 net at 20%
₹2,000 VAT → ₹12,000 gross.
₹12,000 gross at 20%
Net ₹10,000 with ₹2,000 VAT removed.
Understanding the VAT Calculator
Adding and removing VAT
Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax levied on the value added at each step of a supply chain, and it is the international equivalent of India's GST. On any price, VAT is either added on top of a net amount, or already included in a gross figure. This calculator handles both directions at any rate.
- Add VAT (net → gross): VAT = Net × rate/100, and Gross = Net + VAT.
- Remove VAT (gross → net): Net = Gross ÷ (1 + rate/100), and VAT is the difference.
VAT rates around the world
There is no single VAT rate. The UK uses a 20% standard rate, EU members range from roughly 17% to 27%, and the GCC states use lower rates such as 5% (UAE) and 15% (Saudi Arabia). Most systems also apply reduced or zero rates to essentials like food, children's clothing, books and medicines, and treat some supplies as exempt altogether. Always confirm which rate applies before calculating.
VAT vs GST
VAT and GST work the same way mathematically: both are multi-stage, value-added taxes where registered businesses reclaim the tax paid on inputs and remit only the tax on the value they add. India brands its system GST and splits it into CGST/SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state), while most other economies call it VAT. If you need the Indian slab-based split, use the GST calculator instead.
Why net and gross both matter
Businesses quote net (ex-VAT) prices to other businesses, who can reclaim the tax, but show gross (inc-VAT) prices to consumers, who cannot. Mixing the two is a common source of invoicing errors — this tool makes the split explicit so quotes, bills and expense claims all reconcile.
Pros
- Adds or removes VAT at any rate, not just fixed slabs.
- Works for the UK, EU, GCC and any VAT-based country.
- Instantly separates net price, VAT and gross total.
- Avoids reverse-calculation errors on tax-inclusive prices.
- Useful for invoicing, quoting and expense reconciliation.
Cons
- Assumes a single VAT rate; mixed-rate invoices need line-by-line entry.
- Does not handle reduced, zero-rated or exempt categories automatically.
- Ignores country-specific rules such as reverse-charge or margin schemes.
- Does not compute net VAT payable after input-VAT reclaims.
Tips
- 1Check the correct standard or reduced rate for the product and country first.
- 2Use remove-VAT mode to find the tax hidden inside a gross, VAT-inclusive price.
- 3Keep net (ex-VAT) and gross (inc-VAT) quotes clearly labelled to avoid disputes.
- 4For cross-border sales, confirm whether the destination or origin rate applies.

How we calculate it
Every result is produced by a single, shared and tested financial-formula library used across the whole site — so the maths is consistent from one calculator to the next. Figures are estimates based on the inputs you enter and standard assumptions (such as regular compounding and constant rates); real-world outcomes vary with taxes, fees and changing rates. All calculations run in your browser — nothing you type is stored or sent to a server.
